The draw has taken place. It has been some what kind to us. We do have some openings however after it has been completed. Anyone with a tag that does not have a place to hunt and is interested give us a call. We hope to hear from you.
What a whitetail season we had at Iowa Droptine Outfitters, in more ways than one. All the elements of hunting in Iowa came together this past season. For the second year in a row we had hunters arrive with many acres of corn to be harvested. During the month of October ( which in a normal year 90% of our crops are harvested) we only got a few days of good weather to harvest. Even with the crops still standing, we had a great deer harvest. We harvested the largest buck taken at Iowa Droptine Outfitters, a 190 plus. We also had a 200 plus buck on video escape a near fatal experience. With several return clients this year, lofty goals sere set. Some closed the deal and others saw the buck of a lifetime but never quite closed the deal. The last few days of November set in bitter cold. This weather followed into December with snow and ice. Eighteen inches on the 8th of December. The combination of very active, lengthy rut, extreme cold and snow, many bucks were shedding by the middle of December. Our late hunting in December proved to very difficult by watching for shed bucks.
With all the challenges this past season, we still had a great and successful season. It was fun to see old friends return and to experience many hunting stories at the supper table with the new faces in camp.
The Iowa DNR has released mid June as to when the new rules and quotas will be released. The new rule for the application period for deer and regulations w THE Iowa DRAW is the first Saturday in May through the Sunday following Memorial Day. This year those dates will be May 1 through June 5. We will post anything we get from the DNR soon as they release the final rules and regulations. Thanks to all who hunted with us this past year. It was Great!!
Doesn't seem possible turkey season is just around the corner. The first round of application is over We are now waiting for the results of the draw. February 7 is the next time to purchase a license. Any tags that weren't purchased can be obtained at that time, by contacting the Iowa DNR. We do have openings for seasons three and four. Please contact us if you are interested n a third or fourth season hunt.
As soon as we loose some of our now cover, we will start shed hunting. We have found several already, but with frequent snow falls, many have been covered up.
We have been keeping busy with coyote hunting. We have hunters coming in again in February. We do have openings for coyote hunting also. Give us a call.
Take care, take time to step back and enjoy Mother Nature.
Spring has sprung-mushrooms have popped -much of the field work is done, and turkey hunting has come and gone. What a season Droptine had. The guys from Pennsylvania started things off again this year. They usually don't like hunting out of blinds, but Mother Nature brought the rains and forced them to hunt in the blinds. Well wouldn't you know, by 7:30 the first morning three great toms had been harvested. That was just the first of many great mornings of successful days of hunting we had. Two of our Grandchildren got their first birds during youth season. Our Granddaughter on the first morning at 7:20 and Grandson at 3:20 the first afternoon. Great to see the youth getting involved in the hunting.
We also had three father-sons this year . Two doubled out of the same blind at the same time on the morning of their hunt. We did have one group come in that had opportunities but rain and windstorms sent them home after a day and a half empty handed. That was Mother Nature at it's nastiest with spring storms.
All in all, we had a great season with many happy memories. Our shot opportunities were nearly 100% and harvest rate was almost 90%. Eighty percent of the birds were shot by eight o'clock in the morning on the first day of the hunt.
We should have a very good egg hatch of turkey and pheasant with very few late spring heavy rains. Things are shaping up for a great 2010 turkey season and fall pheasant hunting.
If you have a young son or daughter you would like to bring on a turkey hunt, give us a call for special youth prices. We also offer discounts to husband wife hunts.
We have started seeing allot of velvet with much anticipation of our fall deer hunting. We are booked full for this fall, but give us a call for more information on 2011 and on.
Have a great summer!!

Whitetail Hunts For 2010 and 2011.
Just wanted to let everyone know that we are booked full for the 2010 season except for late season hunts. We are taking deposits yet for the 2011 and 2012 hunting seasons. Remember our hunts are booked on a first come first serve basis with deposits in place. The date your deposit is received will dictate the order that requested dates are filled. This is the only fair way we think. We have several deposits already in place for those years. The dates for 2010 will be Oct 31-Nov 20 with late season hunting also available. Anyone wanting to hunt the 2012 or 2013 seasons, we encourage you to apply this year or to buy a preference point to better assure you that you will get to hunt the year that you want to.
Hunters who tag a deer must report the harvest to the DNR by midnight of the day after it is killed, before taking it to a locker, before processing it for consumption or before leaving the state, whichever occurs first. The hunters whose name is on the tag placed on the animal must report. If no animal is harvested, no reporting is necessary. Failure to report or reporting falsely may result in a misdemeanor citation.
Give us a call or email about any questions on coyote, spring turkey, or deer hunts. Our families at Iowa Droptine Outfitters are looking forward to showing you an Iowa hunt to remember.
